Why It’s Not Too Late to Start Your Winter MTB Training Program
If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll know we’re already a few months into our Winter Training Programs for many of the athletes I work with, including the infamous MTB Breakfast Club. But if you haven’t started yet, don’t worry—you’ve still got time to make significant (as in, massive) progress before the season kicks off.
Four Months can Transform Your Riding
Locally, the Squamish Enduro marks the start of our season on April 27th. Whether you're in this part of the world or not, in theory that gives you nearly four months to make huge gains in your riding performance. Even with only a moderate time commitment of 2-3 hours a week in the gym plus your regular riding or other sports, the difference you can experience in that time is considerable.
What You Can Achieve in Four Months
With focused training, here’s what you can accomplish between now and the start of the season:
Address Faulty Movement Patterns and Minor Injuries:
Clear up those nagging aches and pains that have been holding you back.
Develop better movement mechanics to enhance your performance and reduce your injury risk.
Gain Confidence in the gym with movements you've tended to avoid, or just get confident going to the gym if it's never really clicked for you before.
Build Maximal Strength:
Lay a solid foundation of strength that will transfer directly to more powerful pedalling and better control of the bike.
Easily develop the fundamentals, then learn and perfect powerful, explosive lifts that improve your top-end power and responsiveness.
Develop Anaerobic Conditioning and Sprint Power:
Improve your ability to sustain high-intensity efforts for technical climbs, sprint finishes, or demanding sections of the trail.
Boost your recovery between efforts, so you’re always ready for the next challenge.
Apply Your Strength to the Bike:
Translate your newfound strength into better bike handling, improved efficiency, and the ability to tackle technical sections with confidence.
Unlock new skills or refine existing ones to elevate your overall riding experience.
Why Start Now?
Every week sooner you start is an opportunity to start compounding your gains like interest in the bank. Better still, the sooner you start, the easier it is! Get stronger, more resilient, and more confident before the season begins. Starting now gives you the time to progress safely and effectively, ensuring that you’re primed and ready to roll all season long.
Take the First Step
It’s not too late to join the athletes who are already preparing for their best season yet. Whether you’re looking to bag your first podium at the local enduro, step up a grade or just stay ahead of your 10 year old 😂 , the next four months can set the stage for success.
Get started today—reach out, and I’ll help you build a personalized plan to maximize your winter training. The trails are waiting!
Cheers!
